Research adult size, compatibility, water parameters, diet, quarantine, and veterinary options before acquiring an animal. Do not purchase when safe receipt and appropriate long-term care are uncertain.
Legal checks
Species that are legal in one place may be restricted elsewhere. Buyers and sellers must verify current federal, state, provincial, local, and carrier rules.
International trade and CITES
Cross-border wildlife trade can require declarations, designated ports, inspections, permits, and a licensed importer or transshipper. Confirm requirements with the relevant authorities. Directory inclusion is not evidence that a shipment is legal.
